How many times do I have to come ?

During your initial session there is a discussion about how often the therapist/counselor recommends that you attend therapy/counseling and how often you desire to attend sessions. It is a collective decision.

How can I pay for services ?

You can pay for services with the insurance carriers we accept or through self-pay. Your insurance company can choose not to pay for your services which leaves you responsible for the balance and fees. We bill your insurance as a courtesy, you are ultimately financially responsible for your services.

What if I have to cancel or no show an appointment ?

If you cancel or reschedule an appointment more than 24 hours before your appointment you will not be charged. If you cancel, reschedule or no show an appointment less than 24 hours prior to your appointment you will be charged the cost of the session which must be paid prior to rescheduling your appointment. If you cancel or no show three times you will no longer be able to receive services at TMP.

What if I am having a hard time coming in person to counseling. Is there another option ?

We offer tele-counseling (ONLY IN THE STATE OF VIRGINIA). You can get your counseling session in the comfort of your home or office. We also offer come-to- you services. Please ask about those services.

What if I have a question about something outside of office hours ?

You can use the patient portal to ask questions (it is confidential) or call and leave a message. Your call will be returned in no more than 24 hours.

Do you offer groups and how can I sign up ?

Yes, we offer various groups which are listed on the groups page. The fees vary and some insurance carriers will pay for group services. We will be offering some free support groups to include suicide/grief support.

These services are court ordered or recommended by my probation officer, do I have to release my information to them ?

No, you do not. You will need to sign a release to do so; however, your counselor and your records can be court ordered to appear or be provided.

What to do in case of emergencies ?

The Mahogany Projek does not provide 24 hour services. If you are having a mental health emergency, please call either 9-1-1 or your nearest emergency services department (related to your nearest community service board OR the emergency room near you). If you are having a medical emergency, please call 9-1-1 or go to your nearest emergency room. If you have a scheduled service, you have 24 hours prior to your appointment to cancel your service before being charged a late cancellation or no show fee.

If I am bringing my child for counseling, do I have to attend ?

A child is considered an individual 18 and under. If you are bringing your child for counseling as the parent we require that you attend the first appointment and that you are actively involved in their counseling services. It is not required for you to attend every counseling session; however, we do believe in changing the system versus just "changing the child in a system that hasn't changed."

If you are a legal guardian, we will require you to bring the paperwork confirming your guardianship over the children.
